Advances in Clean Room Technology

What is a Clean Room?
A clean room is a highly sanitised and controlled room free of anti pollution and contaminants. The clean rooms are equipped with concise technology such as scanners, high-speed fans and air ducts. These rooms are constructed of sealed materials to prevent migration of contaminants including volatiles from adhesives and particulate matter. The rooms have high-end filtration systems. They are equipped with air management equipment for creating positive air pressure inside the chamber.
Clean rooms were established in the 1960s. They were developed for the fabrication of precision technology required in the aerospace industry. Clean rooms are now commonly employed for manufacturing or research. They are used in industries of semi-conductors, space satellites, sterile medical devices, nano-fabrication and bio-technology. They are also used in precision electronic industries producing silicon chips and computer hard drives and optics.
They were established, as objects manufactured in these industries are sensitive to microscopic contaminants. Even minute invisible dust particles including bacteria can corrupt a silicon chip. Similarly, contaminants inside a Petri dish can cause gene therapy to go wrong. Clean rooms are subject to specifications. This means that the level of sanitisation and room size is dependent on the industry need. A clean room can be large, small, modular or circular in size.
Clean Room Classifications
Clean rooms are classified according to airborne particle counts. Usually a class 100 clean room has around 750 particles per cubic foot measuring at an approximate rate of 0.2 per metre. Another guideline pertains to the technology used in the clean room. The equipment has to be of the highest technical precision standard. It should be sensitive to variations of temperature, heat and light. This is a way of monitoring the clean room environment. The technology fails to function if the room is contaminated even to a slight degree.
Clean Room & Data Recovery
Data Recovery clean rooms can be defined as environmentally controlled spaces that are free of contaminants of dust and bacteria. A clean room is a controlled environment of designated temperature and humidity. The room usually has moderate dry–cool temperatures with humidity levels of 45%. This is done to ensure that sensitive equipment is at no risk of contamination. The clean room is also referred to as the lab in the data recovery industry
These rooms are a necessary facility in the data recovery industry due to their close tolerance mechanisms. This means that the extreme sensitive nature of the hard drive interior cavity can only be opened in a anti-pollutant environment. There is a danger of corruption of the entire disk if the environment is contaminated. The drive has to be opened and scanned in a controlled environment. It has to be reassembled in a sanitised environment. The drive does not function if any pollutant enters the disk interior during the recovery procedure. ICs and hard drives are manufactured for internal servicing in the clean room. Thus, the concept of clean room technology forms the basis of data recovery.
It is equipped with high-performance air filters for controlling airborne particulate, contaminants and pollutants. This high efficiency particulate air i.e. HEPA filtering system helps in minimising generation of dust particles. The walls and ceilings of the room are made of plastic. External source of lightning and proper ventilation is ensured to permit clean and dust-free air to aid in the process of data recovery.
Basic Guidelines/Rules of Clean Room Technology
Contaminants from the environment outside the clean room should not be allowed into the controlled area.
The equipment used within the controlled environment must not generate or produce contaminants.
Accumulation of contaminants in the controlled environment should not be allowed.
Already existing contaminants must be quickly eliminated from the room. The elimination ought to be done to the fullest extent possible ensuring a sanitised environment.
Data Recovery Clean Room Standards
Clean room specifications are usually defined according to the particle diameter and number of particles per unit volume. The cleanliness class is described as a standard used for determining the level of cleanliness in the air of the controlled environment. This includes the establishment of the national clean room technology standard of 52 95 form in 1999. This standard figures out the airborne particulate cleanliness classes. There are six different classes used in data recovery:
Class 1– ISO3
Class 10 — ISO4
Class 100 — ISO 5
Class 1,000 — ISO 6
Class 10,000 — ISO 7
Class 100,000 ISO 8

Discovering the Best Binoculars, UK
June 4, 2010 by AboutNanoWires.com · Leave a Comment
Before answering the question ‘what are the best binoculars (UK)’ I need to make it very clear that a good pair of binoculars is something you can and should get really passionate about. The best binoculars bring distant images to life with amazing resolution and clarity making you feel as if you are part of a completely new and exciting world.
Imagine being able to see every little detail of what you are viewing with absolutely perfect contrast and clarity no matter where you are and what you are doing. If you experience such perfection you will become passionate and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without the very best binoculars. UK binoculars do vary from what is available in the US and the two environments are completely different so the best binoculars in the US may not be available in the UK or may not perform so well under the different environmental conditions.
You also have to consider that people’s opinions vary, sometimes quite dramatically, so what each person considers too be the best binoculars (UK) is probably not the same. Also, you need to be clear as to what you want to use the binoculars for, the best binoculars for astronomy won’t necessarily be much good for bird watching and the best sport binoculars won’t necessarily be very good as marine binoculars.
One thing that you need to look for in any binoculars is the quality of the lenses and prisms. The best binoculars come with fully multi-coated lenses and top quality Bak-4 prisms. Given the generally damp environment, the best binoculars for the UK, if you want to use them regularly outdoors, should be waterproof and fog-free to ensure a perfect viewing experience.
If you are looking for best marine binoculars in the UK then take a look at the Steiner Commander XP binoculars, they are amazingly high spec, waterproof to 10mtrs, nitrogen sealed with Steiner Nano-Protection (weather proof protection against the environment), high performance HD XP optics, long life rubber armouring and interchangeable eyecup system, truly professional marine binoculars which delivery an amazing performance in low light conditions and come with a 30 year guarantee.
If you are looking for the best binoculars (UK) with image stabilizing then look no further than the Canon IS Binoculars. I know I don’t stand alone when I say that once you own the Canon 10x42L IS binoculars you’ll wonder how you survived without them. Users absolutely rave about them. The lenses are just fantastic, they are the first binoculars to carry the red L-series ring only previously found on Canon professional camera lenses. These binoculars must come high up the list for the best binoculars in the UK, fully waterproof, unrivalled IS capabilities (in any moving environment), superb lens quality, close focus distance of just 2.5mtrs and long eye relief. The one main downside is perhaps weight (1030g) but to get the IS technology there always has to be a compromise regarding the weight.
Bushnell make great binoculars so in your search for the best binoculars for you take a look at the Bushnell Elite. Premium Bak-4 phase coated prisms, fully multi-coated lenses, waterproof, nitrogen sealed, rainguard lens coating and long eye relief. The new XTR technology utilises no less than 60 layers of coatings on each prism to deliver a combined 90% light transmission.
There are some great little compact binoculars to, one of my favourites is the Olympus RC I compact binoculars. Only 195g in weight, credit card size when folded, really stylish, high index Bak-4 prisms and multi-coated lenses.
When buying binoculars it all comes down to what you want to use them for and how much you are prepared to pay. Price doesn’t always denote quality and binoculars that are the best for one activity aren’t necessarily the best for another. Don’t however make the mistake of paying too little, finding they are useless and casting them aside. The best quality lenses do cost! No one can say what are the absolute best binoculars (UK) unless they know what the binoculars are to be used for and even then, as I said, its still a matter of opinion. Just watch out for the lens coatings and the quality of the prisms, make sure the weight suits you, don’t go for too high a magnification if the binoculars are to be hand held (unless you buy IS binoculars), for outdoors, in the UK, waterproof is usually best, if you are new to binoculars and looking to observe fast moving objects then go for binoculars with a wider field of view and if you wear glasses you want an eye relief of 15mm plus. Happy hunting for the best binoculars in the UK.

Id Card Security – Lamination
June 4, 2010 by AboutNanoWires.com · Leave a Comment
ID card lamination involves putting a clear layer of PVC over the card surface. Lamination is used to protect the card image, particularly for high levels of use where the card is regularly swiped through a magnetic stripe reader or taken out of a wallet every day. Lamination will allow 10,000’s of swipes before any visible wear of the image occurs. ID card lamination is either done at the same time as printing (with an in-line laminator) or separately with a dedicated laminator.
For added security, laminate films containing an optical security logo or hologram are available. These can be both standard or custom.
Many of the security features available in ID cards are also used in banknotes, and some of the manufacturers of laminate films are also banknote producers, so the highest security features are available depending on how much a user wants to pay.
Visual security features that can be incorporated into laminates include :
• Fine-detail printing and complex images (e.g. Guilloche patterns)
• Micro-text
• Nano-text
• Holograms
• Morphing and changing images
• Laser readable images
Standard laminates are those available from a catalogue, with pre-designed features. Custom laminates have features specifically tailored to an end-users needs; e.g. incorporating a government seal.
Visit Ultra Magicard’s website to find out more about ID Card Laminators. Our ID card laminator delivers single-sided and double-sided lamination. Ultra Magicard’s Prima 3 printer integrates with the ID card laminator for quick and easy lamination.
