Product Description
This book deals with a topic of vital importance to the design and function of nanodevices. It covers combined systems of electrons and electromagnetic fields at nanometer scales. When the dimensions of an electromagnetic field reach the nanometer scale, it is impossible to determine whether it is an electromagnetic phenomenon or an excited electronic system. This volume covers this interdisciplinary field, with contributions from both the electronic system and electromagnetic areas.

Product Description
The properties of new nanoscale materials, their fabrication and applications, as well as the operational principles of nanodevices and systems, are solely determined by quantum-mechanical laws and principles. This textbook introduces engineers to quantum mechanics and the world of nanostructures, enabling them to apply the theories to numerous nanostructure problems. The textbook covers the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, including uncertainty relations, the Schrödinger equation, perturbation theory, and tunneling. These are then applied to a quantum dot, the smallest artificial atom, and compared to hydrogen, the smallest atom in nature. Nanoscale objects with higher dimensionality, such as quantum wires and quantum wells, are introduced, as well as nanoscale materials and nanodevices. Numerous examples throughout the text help students to understand the material.

Product Description

Bionanotechnology is an emerging multidisciplinary field fusing nanotechnology with biology. This book provides a survey of the most striking and successful approaches to produce biogenic nanodevices with emphasis on the use of microorganisms for production. Entire chapters are dedicated to the biotechnological production of tailor-made biopolymer-based self-assembled nanostructures such as biopolyester, cyanophycin inclusions and alginates, which can be processed into nanoparticles. Other chapters summarise recent developments in protein- and DNA-based nanodevice production. The book demonstrates the diversity of biological nanostructures, the implied design space and the enormous potential for applications in medicine, biotechnology, drug delivery and biocomputing.
